First Year Engineering
The Department of First-Year Engineering was established in the year 1983 with the establishment of the institute. The department has a good intermingle of experienced and trained faculty which works as a team to strengthen the department. The First-Year Engineering Department is the cornerstone of PVPIT, Sangli providing
students with a comprehensive foundation in technical knowledge, essential skills, and a vibrant environment for personal and professional development. Through a well-structured curriculum, hands-on practices, a range of extracurriculars, and support services, the department ensures that every engineering student is well-equipped for their future studies and professional paths.

Strengths of the Department:
1. Experienced Faculty: The department boasts a team of highly qualified faculty members who bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and dedication. Their mentorship, both in and out of the classroom, contributes significantly to student success.
2. Comprehensive Support System: With mentorship programs, peer-to-peer tutoring, and counseling services, the department creates a supportive atmosphere that helps students adjust to the academic rigor of engineering.
3. Conducive Environment: A lush green environment around the department provides fresh oxygen. It enhances the energy and enthusiasm of all the stakeholders.
4. Teaching Pedagogies: Strong pedagogies help students to learn effectively in the classroom. Flipped and Blended Classroom, Four Corner, Think-Pair-Share, etc.. are used by the teaching fraternity, making the teaching-learning process enjoyable. The First-Year Engineering Department plays a pivotal role in shaping the future engineers of tomorrow. Through a mix of core academic activities, engaging extracurricular options, and a commitment to student growth, it successfully prepares students for the journey ahead. While the department has numerous strengths, addressing the areas for improvement will further enhance its ability to offer an enriching and holistic educational experience. By adapting to evolving educational needs and integrating more real-world connections, the department is well-positioned to lead students toward excellence in both their personal and professional
lives.
Activities:
1. Student Induction Program: This program is essential in welcoming first-year students into the engineering ecosystem and familiarizing them with departmental policies, academic expectations, and facilities. SIP also introduces them to available resources, the faculty. It creates creating a supportive environment right from the start.
2. Basic Sciences: First Year Engineering offers core modules in fundamental areas like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Communications Skills and introductory modules for branches such as Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, and Computer Science etc… These modules are designed to build a strong technical foundation, preparing students for specialized courses.
3. Laboratory Sessions and Workshops: Laboratory sessions give students hands-on experience with theoretical concepts. The dept has full-fledged labs: Physics, Chemistry, English Language Lab, etc…where students are trained professionally.
4. Seminars and Guest Lectures: Regular seminars and guest lectures from industry experts, alumni, and academicians offer insights into emerging technologies and trends in various engineering fields. It helps students explore different areas of interest and gain inspiration from accomplished professionals.
5. Mentorship Programs: Faculty members mentor first-year students, offering academic support and guidance on extracurricular and personal development. This mentoring program creates a supportive environment that helps students acclimate to the demands of engineering education. Every mentor is given the responsibility of a batch. Every batch consists of nearly 20 mentees.
Extracurricular Activities:
1. Social Service and Environmental Initiatives: Through community service programs and the Eco-Club, the department emphasizes social responsibility and environmental awareness. Activities include tree-planting drives, recycling programs, and initiatives to reduce carbon footprints, instilling values of sustainability and service in students.
2. Language and Communication Workshops: Realizing the importance of effective communication, the department conducts workshops on English proficiency, public speaking, and technical writing. These workshops are designed to enhance students’ presentation skills and prepare them for future professional scenarios.
